Green Valley Parent Preschool

About Us

Our mission is to provide a quality preschool education

that supports our children’s social, intellectual and artistic development

while instilling respect for cultural diversity and our living environment.

Our beginning

Ei
ght mothers joined together in Spring of 2010 to co-found the Green Valley Parent Preschool (GVPP,            a California nonprofit corporation), in order to create an educational environment for our own children, in which we could participate actively, structure a superior preschool experience, and create a nurturing community.  We developed a business plan, became a 501 (c) 3, secured proper insurance, purchased a curriculum from an educational franchise,  prepared all of our teaching materials,  located and remodeled our classroom suite, and opened doors to our students in September 2010.

Our co-founders
Six of the eight original co-founders hold leadership positions of the nonprofit corporation for the school year 2011-12, and serve as mentors to new parents.  Two of our co-founders will no longer be participating actively, because  their children have reached Kindergarten age.   Our co-founders are listed below with their 2011-2012 roles and their career and family background.

All teaching parents/guardians of enrolled children may become board members of GVPP, once a position becomes available. All teaching parents attend a mandatory monthly planning meeting on the first Wednesday of each month.

Our Teachers

GVPP is a “true co-op” and does not have a paid teacher or director on site. The parents/guardians team-teach (3 teachers per class session) rotating weekly.  Parent-teachers structure the lesson plans based on a purchased curriculum (Joy School) and prepare all educational materials to follow GVPP’s daily schedule.  Each parent/guardian is committed to teaching one week per month of the school year, or no more than ten one-week sessions per enrolled child.  The teaching parent/guardian must be the same person for the entire year.  All teachers' backgrounds have been cleared with the Live Scan fingerprint service.  All teachers are also CPR and First Aid Certified (the Enrollment Fee pays for new parents' certification or refresher course).

Our Students
The participating parents' children attend the GVPP. The children must be two years, nine months and fully potty trained prior to the start of school.
